Meet the Executive Board
2022-2023

President - Hannah Hong
Studies: Mechanical Engineering major, Cognitive Neuroscience minor
Standing: Junior

Hey! Hey! I am Hannah Hong and I am the President of ASME. My goal as the president is to help other students to understand what career pathway they would like to take and also help students to network with peers and also people from industry. I am working to make it a safe place for students to bring up topics and be able to talk to our executive board about. Alongside getting a bachelors in mechanical engineering, I am also working towards a minor in cognitive science because the brain is amazing and so complex that you’re scratching your brain just learning about it. Outside of school and ASME, I work at ZIP LaunchPad which is SDSU’s startup incubator. As a Mechanical engineering intern for ZIP LaunchPad, I work with other various startup teams to create a prototype using 3D printing or laser cutting. Alongside being an intern, I am currently on ASME’s Student design competition team because I really enjoyed having my hands-on experience. I am a FIRST alumni so I was really looking forward to getting back into robotics. Being that I was a part of FIRST robotics, I was in an all girls-robotics team which led to then join SDSU’s Society of Women Engineers club. Outside of school activities I also enjoy film photography, thrifting, and bouldering. I also just enjoy being active and going on hikes and exploring different parts of California.

Treasurer - Jason Nguyen
Studies: Mechanical Engineering major
Standing: Junior

Hey everyone! My name is Jason Nguyen and I am your Treasurer for ASME here at SDSU for the 2022-2023 school year. My intentions, on behalf of the club, is to build and support a community so that engineering majors of all backgrounds can take advantage of the resources and opportunities provided by ASME. Though I mainly work in logistics for the club, please reach out if you have any questions in regards to the club or any general advice and I’d be happy to help out to the best of my abilities. In addition to ASME, I currently work as an Undergraduate research assistant at the Nano Fabrication Lab under Dr. Samuel Kassegne. Outside of my studies and extracurriculars, I enjoy playing volleyball, basketball, rock climbing, hiking, and just staying active in general.

Secretary - Tammi Ho
Studies: Mechanical Engineering major, Business Management minor
Standing: Junior

Yo it’s T.Ho! I am so happy to be your secretary for this year. My goal for SDSU ASME is to connect our board to our general members. My job is to help you stay informed about what’s going on and what we have planned for this organization, working closely with our amazing Marketing Director. I will be consistently posting on our Discord and sending out all of the newsletters to update you! Whether it be events, our next GBM, or recaps of what happened in our GBMs, I will send out that information to you and will always be open to any questions you may have for us. Right now as a third year, I am a full-time student while working at the library as a student assistant. If you see me there, be sure to say hello! I’ve been part of MESA since my first year and joined social clubs. ASME is the first engineering-related organization I’ve joined, and I’m very excited to be part of something amazing like it. Unlike the rest of this great board, I will not be attending for this full year. I’m excited to begin my study abroad endeavor for this Spring 2023 semester in Austria at Vienna University of Business and Economics. With this in mind, I will do all I can for this Fall semester and continue to help remotely as I will be in a different time zone!

Marketing Director - Jessica Munoz
Studies: Mechanical Engineering major
Standing: Junior

Hello!! I'm Jess and I am your official Marketing Director for the 2022-2023 school year. I am native to San Diego and am close to my last year here at SDSU. My role in the club is to grab the interest of students and to make sure word gets out about our club meetings and events. I mainly work alongside Tammi, who is a great Secretary, in order to ensure everyone knows about our GBMs and the events we have planned for you all. I currently am enrolled as a full-time student, and work at the ZIP Launchpad Lab as an intern. It is SDSU’s personal startup incubator and is the best way to start a company with little to no experience. The other interns and I will guide you to make any prototypes or graphics needed, along with non equitable funding and legal advisors it is something you can’t pass up. The lab is where I spend most of my time and I enjoy the experience and knowledge it gives me. I am also a member of SWE, which also connected me to engineering club life. I can’t wait to meet everyone and make it a great year for ASME!

SDC Chief Engineer - Kenton Williams
Studies: Mechanical Engineering major
Standing: Senior

Hello! Kenton here. I am one of the Chief Engineers for SDSU’s Student Design Competition team this year. I am in charge of the mechatronics side of the project, so the solar panels, wind turbines, batteries, and all that jazz. As Chief Engineer, I coordinate with Jack to set up the meetings and make sure the project stays on schedule. The project this year involves harnessing renewable energy and will be super fun so don’t hesitate to reach out to me on the SDC Discord channel if you have any questions! A little bit about me: I am a transfer student from Palomar Community College. This is my third year at SDSU and I will be graduating this upcoming spring. I took my final year of school off of work to focus on ASME and my studies, but previously I have been a bartender for 5 years.  I like to stay active by going to the gym. I love anything at the beach so last year I got into surfing and during the spring semester I want to take a sailing class here at SDSU. I recently got into rock climbing and it has been a fun but very humbling experience. I can’t wait to meet with all of you guys this year and help make this year amazing for ASME SDSU!

Events Manager - Taiyo Gurule
Studies: Mechanical Engineering major
Standing: Senior

Hey everyone! My name is Taiyo Gurule and I am one of the Event Managers for ASME. My role is to work alongside Jake Black, the rest of the board, and members of ASME to plan fun social events so that our members can get to know each other on a personal level. I think it’s very beneficial to create relationships outside of the school/work environment. Here is a little bit about myself: I was born and raised in San Diego and my love for this city is the reason why decided to attend SDSU. As a senior, I am expected to graduate in Spring 2023. I am currently working at the SDSU nanofabrication lab under Dr. Sam Kassegne as an undergraduate research assistant. The research that I am currently doing is on Dielectrophoresis (DEP) which is the migration of particles toward a position. We are currently fabricating electrodes with the goal that they will detect viruses in a water supply. I am also currently working at a restaurant as a server. Outside of work/school, I enjoy being outdoors at the beach and hitting the gym. I also love discovering new music and DJing house and techno music in my free time. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you this year! Go Mechanical Engineers!!

Events Manager - Jake Black
Studies: Mechanical Engineering major
Standing: Sophomore

Hey! My name is Jake Black and I am an events manager for ASME. I work with Taiyo Gurule and the rest of the board members to plan social events to bring members together such as the bonfire. I think the relationships we create within this club are so beneficial outside of it and beyond just the college level. I was born and raised in Orange County and when deciding on a college I knew I wanted to stay in California but far enough away from home to dorm that’s why I chose San Diego State University. I am expected to graduate Fall 2024. Some of my hobbies include snowboarding, surfing, and hiking. The reason I chose mechanical engineering is because of how broad the major is and how many opportunities it allows in so many different directions.
